The Bingham Canyon Mine is located in Mount Oquim, southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah. The largest copper mine in the world, now over 100 years old, has a 4km wide open pit mine.
With a depth of nearly 1.2 kilometers and an area of 7.7 square kilometers, the mine is considered to be the largest artificially excavated cave in the world.
The mine began production in 1906 and is still in operation, but has been listed as a national historic landmark with a visitor center serving people who have come to see the wonders.
