The Diavik Diamond Mine belongs to this short list of caves that began to excavate in 2003. It is located in the Icefields of Canada in the Arctic Circle and is more than 182 meters deep.
It is currently only possible to reach the mine by plane – its gravel runway is enough to take off and land a Boeing 737.
There is also a road on the ice, but it can only be used when the weather is good. The mine produces 3,300 pounds of diamonds a year.
