Columbus was the first European navigator to reach the American continent, but he always thought that he was in India, so the local aborigines were called Indians. When Columbus died, he thought he was going to India.
Later, the Italian navigator Amerigo traveled several times between 1499 and 1504 to the coast of South America for field trips. After returning to Europe, he drew a new map and fully affirmed that the area he had visited was not the “India” that Columbus referred to, but the “New World.”
Since 1507, people have called “New World” in his name as “Amerika”, which is America.
