“mèng zǐ ·lí lóu shàng” Original:
“bú xiào yǒu sān , wú hòu wéi dà , shùn bú gào ér qǔ , wéi wú hòu yě ”.Chinese characters: 不孝有三，无后为大，舜不告而娶，为无后也
English translation:There are three ways to be unfilial, one is to have no future, the other is to marry Shun without complaint, and the other is to have no future.
The meaning of this sentence is that “there are many acts of filial piety, and the responsibility of the younger generation is not the greatest. The wife does not tell the parents in advance and does not obtain the consent of the parents. This is the obligation not to fulfill the children’s descendants.”
Therefore, the “no after” in the original text should mean “the responsibility of not reaching the children’s younger generation”, rather than the “no future generations” that we generally understand now.
