Whenever we see someone yawning, we will unconsciously generate the idea of yawning. Why? Is yawning also contagious?
Before we understand why we are yawned by others, we should first understand why we yawn?
The act of yawning generally occurs when our brain is hypoxic and the carbon dioxide content in the body is too high, in order to expel the carbon dioxide in the body and absorb new oxygen. Because the effort required to achieve this behavior is minimal, yawning generally occurs automatically.
When we see others yawning, because this behavior is extremely simple, and we are self-psychologically implied by other people’s actions, we can’t help but yawn. In addition, when others yawn, the increase in carbon dioxide in the air causes our bodies to respond simultaneously to yawn.
Therefore, we are indeed affected by the act of yawning by others, and the act of yawning is also “contagious”.
