Under the cooperation of the Beijing Municipal Education Bureau, the Civil Aviation Administration of China selected 18 people at the end of the year. These 18 girls formed the first generation of flight attendants in New China and were called “18 sisters in the air.”

Interestingly, there was an unwritten rule for the first flight attendants: they had to participate in the flight for two years before they could fall in love. After that, the civil aviation team transferred a group of pilots from the Air Force. Fifteen of the 18 people were married to the pilots.
