There is such an interesting hut: obviously people of the same height. After entering, they stand at different angles and show the huge height difference between the “giant” and the “dwarf”, as if they had entered a height-magic room. This is the famous “Ames Room” experiment in the optical illusion experiment.
The Ames room is a perceptual demonstration by American psychologist Adelbert Ames. The specific operation process is as follows: two people of the same height, one standing at the farthest point where the room extends, and the other standing at the end of the indentation. The two people have a great visual height difference in an instant. If no actual height measurement is made, no one would believe that the two men are as high.
Why is this happening? This is because in our cognition, the room must be parallel up and down, left and right, so when we treat a non-parallel room as a parallel reference, we visually think that people in the distance become smaller. And the people in the vicinity are growing taller. With experience and eyes as the standard of judgment, I do not know that I have been “deceived” by visual illusion.
This phenomenon is the illusion that the size always produces. The size is always two objects of equal size, one placed at a distance and one placed near, although the near object is much larger than the distant object on the observer’s retina, but we think it is the same size. . But this perception is known to the experimental operator. When an unsuspecting observer observes through the picture, the constant illusion of size will create a visual illusion.
Because of the existence of visual constantity, when people are looking at a room, the shape of the room has a concrete look in the minds of people. Although the eyes should look like the room where the length and width of the left and right are changed, but because of the perseverance of perception, people have become accustomed to the central perspective to observe things, so no matter what the shape of the house changes, the vision will always be the house. It should be like to make judgments and produce optical illusions.
Optical illusion, also known as visual illusion, refers to images with visual deceptions created by geometric arrangement, visual imaging laws, etc., causing visual illusions and achieving artistic or magical effects. Optical illusions are generally divided into: geometric illusion caused by the construction of the image itself; physiological illusion caused by sensory organs; and cognitive illusion caused by psychological reasons.
Interesting optical illusions have many applications in every respect, especially in terms of design. For example, in graphic design: using the abnormality of contradictory spatial illusion, creating a variety of levels on the flat poster, giving people visual stimuli, creating a novel and peculiar sense of visual space; using screen composition elements to arrange different dynamic views The illusion produces different effects on the eye; the optical illusion often exists in the contrast of strong colors and lines that are regularly arranged, which gives the picture a strong visual impact and rhythm, and improves attention.
Seeing is not necessarily “true”, there are many interesting visual illusions, waiting for everyone to explore.
