In 2008, Japanese scientists discovered a protein in the retina of the eye that is responsible for the transmission of visual signals from the eye to the brain. It turns out that if there is no such “quick lightning” protein transfer, it would take three times longer, plus it is a discovery by Japanese scientists, so I gave it such a super cute name.
